BEIRUT - The Prime Minister of
Lebanon, HE Mr. Najib Mikati, has patronized the opening ceremony of Talal
Abu-Ghazaleh for Technology (TAGTech) factory at the Lebanese University in Al
Fanar Branch, in the presence of Minister of Industry, HE Mr. George
Bouchikian, Minister of Education and Higher Education, HE Dr. Abbas Halabi,
the University President, Prof. Bassam Badran, and representative of HE Dr.
Talal Abu-Ghazaleh in Lebanon for Culture and Media, Mr. Burhan Al Ashkar.
During the ceremony, Mr. Mikati praised
the efforts of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh in supporting the Arab youth,
particularly the Lebanese, by enabling them to gain and enhance technological
skills that meet the needs and requirements of the labor markets.
He said that the opening of the TAGTech
factory at the Lebanese University is an exceptional and significant milestone
that is consistent with the efforts of the Lebanese University, especially
since the University has returned to prominence and regained its esteemed
scientific standing at the local, regional, and global levels. “This underscores
the University’s ongoing commitment to achieve excellence in technology
industry and scientific research domains,” Mr. Mikati stated, adding that
"the newly opened factory would undoubtedly become a hub for creativity,
innovation and manufacturing. It will have also a positive impact on the
University community and the national industry".
Mr. Mikati further added: “Today, we are
celebrating together the opening ceremony of this factory at the Pierre Gemayel
Campus at the University, marking a crucial transition in the march of Lebanese
universities to steadily move towards enhancing and embracing innovation. This
remarkable initiative would efficiently offer promising opportunities for young
generations by connecting education to global technical capabilities, and
bolstering high-quality local industries to compete against imported
equivalents, as they will be developed by experts, academics and students
within the University.”
Mr. Mikati pointed out that the opening of
this factory is the outcome of a collaborative effort between the Lebanese
University and TAG.Global attributed to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s belief in the
potential and ability of the Arab and Lebanese youth to gain and develop
technological skills, supporting the innovative industrial designs developed by
academics and graduates by patenting their innovations and integrating them
into production lines.
He further expressed his wishes for a
speedy and full recovery to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, who regrettably could not attend
the ceremony due to health condition, extending his regards and gratitude to
him.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Manal Khater, in
her capacity as the TAGTech/ Lebanese University Branch manager, presented the
first produced tablet from the University factory to Mr. Mikati. Later on, the
