MarchDr. Abu-Ghazaleh Responds to Calls of Depositors and their Associations in Lebanon
AMMAN –- HE Dr.
Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global
(TAG.Global), responded to the calls of depositors and their associations who
have been badly affected by Lebanon’s Central Bank decisions, to proceed with
legal actions with the aim to recover their money from banks.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh
stated that a specialized committee that is formed of the concerned
stakeholders would approach the relevant international authorities, namely the
UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, to file a lawsuit with the general
prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
In an open letter,
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh added, “I welcome every badly affected victim of this crime,
individually or as a group, to join us in filing this lawsuit, which I am
honored to initiate out of my national duty toward Lebanon.”
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh,
through one of TAG.Global’s firms; Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Legal (TAG-Legal), is
working with the offices of the attorneys Mr. Antoine Gergamaz in France and
Mr. Philippe Maalouf in Lebanon to sue the Central Bank of Lebanon and the
banks that froze depositors’ bank accounts.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh
affirmed that all legal fees for filing the lawsuit will be at his own expense
out of his national duty toward his beloved country, Lebanon, following an
appeal made by the Lebanese depositors and their associations in Lebanon to
help them reclaim their frozen funds.
Towards this goal,
the committee has started preparing files and documenting actions that constitute flagrant violations
of human rights which are considered a crime against humanity. This will be
prepared based on the Human Rights Council's report, which indicates that the
Lebanese State, including its Central Bank, is accountable for human rights
breaches caused by this man-made catastrophe, including the unnecessary
impoverishment of the people.
In addition, Dr.
Abu-Ghazaleh urged depositors who want to join the lawsuit to submit the
necessary documents; including a signed power of attorney with copies of their
ID’s or passports, to attorney Philippe Maalouf at the following address:
