AMMAN - The Chinese Embassy in Jordan, in
cooperation with the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG-Confucius) – a
member of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), has organized a ceremony to
celebrate the Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival at the Talal
Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum.

The ceremony was held under the patronage
of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and Chairman of TAG.Global, and H.E. Mr.
Liu Zengxian, Charge d’affaires of Chinese Embassy in Jordan in the presence of
Ms. Shi Wei, Cultural Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Jordan and Director of
China Cultural Center in Amman, and representatives of the Chinese diplomatic
mission in Jordan. The ceremony was also attended by a host of high-ranking
figures, including ambassadors, representatives of Jordanian universities,
media outlets, university students and members of the Chinese community in
Jordan.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Zengxian
congratulated the peoples of Jordan and China on the New Year 2023 and the
Chinese Spring Festival. He  applauded
the historic Jordanian-Chinese relations that are founded on friendship and
mutual respect.

“This Chinese New Year marks the return of
the in-person celebrations following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. For
the first time in three years, millions of people will travel across China to
celebrate this anniversary with their families, starting from January 22 for 15
days. This Lunar New Year: the Year of the Rabbit marks the beginning of  the Chinese lunar calendar, where Chinese
people believe that the rabbit symbolizes hope, peace and prosperity, as well
as an embodiment of the moon goddess and a sign of purity,” he said.

For his part, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed
the depth of the Chinese-Jordanian relations, stating that culture is one of
the most important factors that promote heritage and brings people closer,
highlighting the role TAG-Confucius plays, as the first institute of its kind
to be acknowledged by the Chinese government in Jordan to disseminate and teach
Chinese language and culture.

‘We, at TAG.Global, sincerely believe in
Chinese dominance in various fields, and we are fully aware of the significance
and impact of Chinese culture, civilization, and technology, which motivated us
to become among the first global companies to open offices in the People's
Republic of China” Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said, adding that “TAG.Global has three
offices operating at full capacity in (Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong), in
addition to two representative offices in Guangzhou and Chengdu to offer our
world-class professional and educational services”.

He further stated that he has recently
called on the Chinese government and the League of Arab States to convene an
Arab-Chinese summit as soon as possible to address to deepen Sino-Arab economic
cooperation and friendship.

During the ceremony, TAG-Confucius’s
students and teachers, as well as students from the University of Jordan and
Philadelphia University, presented colorful artistic performances portraying
the Chinese heritage including singing, reciting poetry, and displaying
traditional Chinese costumes. That is in addition to presenting the techniques
of the Tai chi (also taiji), Chinese spiritual and physical exercises that are
widely practiced by the Chinese people.



The event concluded with a Chinese cuisine
dinner.
