AMMAN – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder
and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), has reaffirmed that
cybersecurity and environmental pollution are considered top critical issues
threatening the future of humanity. We should realize that each constitutes a
major challenge that necessitate collective cooperation to overcome the threat
and to protect the national security and livelihood.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s statement was part of
his keynote speech at the Second Regional Conference on Cybersecurity and
Renewable Energy, organized by the Arab Internet and Telecom Union (ARISPA) in
Beirut, under the auspices of the League of the Arab States.

The Conference was held in the presence of
Dr. Firas Bakour, ARISPA chairman of the Board, Mr. Shunli
Wang, President of Public Affairs & Corporate Communications of Huawei
Middle East, Dr. Khaled Wali, Minister Plenipotentiary at the League of Arab
States and HE Mr. Johnny Corm, Lebanon’s Minister of Telecommunications, in
addition to high-ranking dignitaries.

Cybersecurity:

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh further affirmed that
the challenges cybersecurity is experiencing are enormous, especially after the
technical and technological progress that is that is invading our life,
emphasizing the importance of constantly developing security protection methods
to address all new threats to information security.

He, further, explained that the key
problem lies in the Internet and “Internet Governance”, noting that the US
opposes its governance, since it considers the internet as something that
exists in the space with no limits, not subject to any sovereignty or courts.

Moreover, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh indicated that
the problem of the Internet has two sides; internationally and locally. The
international side is out of control, while the national local side could be
solved by establishing a specialized department in each ministry with the aim
of coordinating and managing Internet cyber protection. These include,
according to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, the establishment of departments and centers at
each public institution and all business enterprises.

He also underlined the need to ascertain
the effectiveness of the protection system in an organization or institution to
protect content and ensure that a Backup System is provided in case of loss of
database and files.

On Environmental Pollution

 Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh drew the audience
attention to studies that estimated that the world would face a major challenge
to human existence in 2050, which may lead  to human extinction as a
result to environmental pollution. He called for finding effective solutions
starting with moving away from fossil fuels, replacing them with solar and
renewable energy at the national and individual levels.

He pointed out that the measures, at the
national level, should be implemented through the provision of solar panel
factories in every country, by availing financial grants and incentives to
founders of these factories, including tax exemption. While at the individual
level, he suggested to move towards solar energy; stating that TAG.Global
established a solar power plant which is saving a huge amount of money, and the
project contributes to the protection of the environment by generating clean
energy. 

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh ended by expressing his
optimism about the creation of a renewable energy-based global system, since it
is accessible to all and allows all countries to achieve national security and
self-sufficiency.
